Interview: Dell's Steve Felice On The State Of The PC Business

This article is more than 10 years old.

What the heck is wrong with the personal computer market?

In Q3, PC unit volumes tumbled 8% from a year ago - a horrific performance by a sector that has been growing for years. You can blame a variety of things, including tablet cannibalization, macro weakness and over production. The weak market has caused serious issues for all of the PC manufacturers - including the two U.S. giants in the field, Dell and Hewlett-Packard.

At last week's Techonomy conference in Tucson, I say down for a discussion on the state of the PC market with Steve Felice, the chief commercial officer at Dell. He blames the recent softness in PC demand specifically on macro issues. But Dell, meanwhile, continues to use acquisition to diversify its business more and more into the enterprise IT stack.

Felice says he still sees growth in the PC sector - "still the best productivity tool" - but concedes that it remains to be seen when the PC purchasing cycle will begin again.

You can watch an edited version of interview with Felice in the video below.
