Bose SoundDock with Lightning support coming later this month

Not everyone is a fan of Bose audio products. They are typically more expensive and have fewer features than their counterparts, but still, they manage to sell a ton of them. And the SoundDock is the perfect example of that.

Introduced in 2004, the $200+ Bose SoundDock is one of the most recognizable lines of iPhone/iPod speakers on the market. And this month, Bose is going to release a new version of the Dock with Lightning support…

As noted by MacRumors, Bose has recently started advertising the SoundDock III digital music system with support for Apple’s new dock connector. It’s priced at $249 and is currently listed as shipping in 7-10 business days.

“The SoundDock Series III digital music system lets you play music from any iPod or iPhone model with an Apple Lightning connector, and enjoy it with Bose quality sound.

– Proprietary acoustic design delivers a unique combination of small size and proven performance.
– Convenient remote controls the system and basic iPod or iPhone functions, including playlist navigation.
– Works with and charges iPod and iPhone models with an Apple Lightning connector.
– Auxiliary input lets you play other audio devices.”

Initially, Lightning-supported accessories were impossible to find. But over the past month or so, we’ve seen a number of iPhone 5 and iPad mini-compatible releases from Belkin, Scosche and other third-party manufacturers.

If you’re looking for speaker docks specifically, both JBL and Phillips have recently made announcements on that front. For what it’s worth, JBL offers the OnBeat Micro for $99, and unlike the SoundDock III, it’s available now.
