The Great Link

Are you constantly sending your buddies in the office links to funny Imgur pictures or hilarious YouTube videos? Is that why your office IT department shut down any non-corporate instant messaging services on the office network? Do you still want to send your co-workers funny links to lighten the monotony of the cubicle farm you all work in?

Whatever the reason, if you want to be able to send and receive links quickly and easily without having to copy and paste them into an IM client or email, The Great Link may be the app for you. It’s easy to set up and simple to use. Here’s how.

First, download The Great Link from the Mac App Store for each Mac you want to be able to share links with. Installation is a breeze, as the Mac App Store will place the new app into your Launchpad and Applications folder. Launch it on both Macs (or more) to have it ready to send and receive.

Open a browser window using Safari or Chrome, and navigate to a link you want to share. Click on The Great Link’s menu bar icon at the top of your Mac’s screen, and then click on the “Get Browser URL” button on the resulting pop-over window. Once you see the ULR show up in The Great Link’s window, click on the other Mac’s icon, then click on the Share button.

If the receiving Mac is running OS X Mountain Lion, it will get a Notification Center message. If it is running OS X Lion, it will get a dialog box with the option to Ignore or Open the shared link.
