Stevie brings its unique take on social TV to the iPhone and grabs $1.5m funding from Horizons Ventures

Stevie brings its unique take on social TV to the iPhone and grabs $1.5m funding from Horizons Ventures

Stevie, the quirkily-named, TV-focused startup that emerged from Microsoft’s Azure Accelerator in Israel earlier this year, has announced a $1.5m Series-A funding round and the launch of its app on the iPhone.

Stevie takes videos from users’ Facebook and Twitter feeds along with other content from around the Web and presents it all in a format perfect for TVs. That doesn’t preclude it from consumption elsewhere though. In addition to signing a deal to bring its service to the Xbox 360, Stevie offers iPad, Windows 8 and Web apps, as well as iPhone and Android apps for remotely controlling the Stevie experience.

The new iPhone app brings all Stevie’s channels to a smartphone-sized screen for the first time, perfect for relaxing with a stream of videos while you’re on the go.

Meanwhile, Stevie’s $1.5 million Series A round comes from Horizons Ventures and brings the startup’s total funding so far to $2.1 million. The fresh cash will be used to help bring Stevie to more types of devices, including the aforementioned Xbox, plus Android and connected TVs.
