Some products get saddled with truly awful names, like Motorola's KRZR — known as the Canary before launch — or Qwikster, Netflix's ill-fated DVD-by-mail service. As former Safari and WebKit engineer Don Melton has revealed, Apple's iconic Safari browser very nearly shared the same fate. Amongst the many names tossed around, Melton recalls Steve Jobs suggesting "Freedom," which was eventually discarded because of its association with feminine hygiene products.
