ProCamera 4.0 Proves Why The App Is Worthy Of Its 'Pro' Name

December 23, 2012
ProCamera, the award-winning camera app for iPhone created by Jens Daemgen, has just been updated to version 4.0. Unarguably, ProCamera 4.0 is the best iteration yet of this app, which has been available for nearly as long as the App Store itself has been existence. Of course, ProCamera wouldn't be enjoying its longevity if not for its high quality, which is vouched for by none other than the National Geographic. We here at AppAdvice can also vouch for ProCamera's excellence. We reviewed the app rather favorably back in 2010. And more recently, we included it in our Best iPhone Camera App Showdown. Last October, the app got its previous major update, which included: iPhone 5 support, video stabilization, night capture mode, adjustable JPEG compression, and iOS 6 optimization. If you think that's already a lot, wait till you find out what the app's latest update has to offer. ProCamera 4.0 offers a great deal of new photo, video, editing, sharing, and usability features. For photo, the app now lets you capture in square (1:1), widescreen (16:9), standard (4:3) and 3:2 formats. The app also lets you save, share, export, and delete photos with the new Lightbox section. And simultaneous two-finger focus and exposure control plus library and album enhancements are thrown in for good measure. For video, ProCamera 4.0 enables you to snap 2 MP photos while recording an HD video. It also lets you upload videos to Dropbox and view metadata associated with your videos. As for the app's photo editing suite, the update introduces new Pro Lab editing tools including:
  • Tone Curves tool with RGB and single color channel correction
  • Live histogram for accurate editing
  • New and improved adjustment sliders including Brightness, Contrast, Gamma, Saturation, Color temperature, Shadow and Highlight correction, Red, Green, and Blue
  • Improved and new effects in Pro FX.
  • And for sharing, ProCamera 2.0 adds Instagram support enhanced with SquarePrepare, which lets you send your landscape, portrait, and square photos straight to the popular photo sharing app. "Multi-Multi" sharing has also been added, allowing you to share multiple pictures to multiple networks with just a few taps. And finally, ProCamera 4.0 provides greater usability with optimized QuickFlick controls: flick right for Albums, flick left for Settings. The update also delivers a redesigned code architecture for improved stability and performance. ProCamera 4.0 is available now in the App Store as a free update for existing users of the app. For new users, the app is available for only $0.99, down from its normal price of $2.99.
