IOGEAR Ultra Capacity Mobile Power Station provides a whopping 11,000 mAh

More and more mobile devices have integrated batteries so the only way to top them off on the go is to plug in to an outlet or mobile power station. The new IOGEAR Ultra Capacity Mobile Power Station, aka The 10K, provides plenty of capacity for your tablet or smartphone.

IOGEAR Ultra Capacity Mobile Power Station retail package

Most of the latest mobile devices have integrated batteries with no option to purchase and carry extra batteries around. I used to buy extra batteries and when I was out in the field for an extended period of time or travel across the country or the world I would pop in spare batteries. The solution for the road warrior is now to carry some form of mobile power pack and one of the higher capacity ones I have tried was sent to me to try for a couple of weeks from the folks at IOGEAR. The IOGEAR Ultra Capacity Mobile Power Station provides 11,000 mAh with two USB output ports.

The model number is GMP10K and rather than the full six word name, the nickname of this power station is The 10K so that is what I will use in the rest of this review. The retail package is shown in the photo above and in the next couple of photos. As you can see, the 10K is actually pretty compact for such high capacity rating. The box contents include:

  • Mobile Power Station
  • USB to Micro-USB Cable
  • USB to A/C Power Adapter
  • Protective Carry Pouch
  • Quick Start Guide
  • Warranty Card

The carry pouch has a drawstring to keep the power station in the pouch. You can use the included USB to microUSB cable to recharge your microUSB devices, but there are no other cables included to charge your devices. You need to bring your device specific cable to charge up your devices.

Back of the retail package

Specifications of The 10K include:

  • 11,000mAh lithium polymer cell
  • Dual 5 volt USB output ports, one 1 amp and the other 2.1 amp
  • microUSB input for charging the power station
  • Dimensions of 4.75 x 3 x 0.75 inches and 10.4 ounces

I like that you can use a standard microUSB cable to charge up the battery and found it took something like six to seven hours to go from a dead battery to a full charge. Plugging it in at night and getting it fully charged worked well. I also found the 2.1 amp USB port charged up a typical smartphone in about 2 hours. You should be able to charge up your devices multiple times with The 10K. You can use the right 2.1 amp output USB port to charge up your iPad and this is a bit unique in the mobile charging station market where very few have the power needed to charge up these larger capacity batteries. You can even charge up two devices at the same time and if you need to you can also charge up the 10K at the same time as when you charge up other devices.

The 10K comes in white and silver and feels rock solid. It has rounded corners and a silver band around it to protect the power station. There is a large silver button on the front and when you press it you will see the battery status, shown as 0-4 bars under the white front cover. The LEDs indicate a band of approximately 20% capacity. There are four small rubber nubs on the bottom to keep The 10K from sliding around on the table as well.

You can find The 10K online with a full MSRP of $69.95. I saw it at Amazon for just $59.95 and at NewEgg for just $49.95 so there are some great deals for this device if you look around just a bit. $50 for 11,000 mAh is a SUPER DEAL and I already placed an order for one for myself with the busy travel season getting underway soon. ZAGG has a similar product, but with only a 6,000 mAh capacity priced at $100 so you can see this is a great deal. It is rare to find a mobile power pack that charges up higher capacity tablets and The 10K does a great job in this regard. If you have multiple mobile device are just need to make sure you have enough power to last at least a full LONG day then you may want to consider the 10K.
