Percepto may look familiar to some gamers as it has been updated with new and improved graphics as well as all new levels from the original game two years ago. Players who already have the old version may think twice about updating because the user reviews suggest that the previous game save data will be erased since everything about the game is completely different.

The storyline still revolves around a fellow named Bruce who fell asleep and woke up in a strange room that has two dimensions. Players must help him find his way out the door by rotating between 2D and 3D to find a new point of view.

The first few levels help players grasp the controls and concept of the game. Simply touch the screen and rotate in the desired direction. Once everything appears to be lined up, then just tap on the screen and drag the character. Obstacles like moving blocks and stairs are throw into the game to keep it challenging. Once Bruce successfully makes it to the door, he shouts out a cheerful “Woo Hoo.”

It appears that stars are based on the number of moves made, but it took a little exploring to figure this out. Gamers who make a mistake can undo a move by tapping on the triangle at the bottom of the screen and selecting the appropriate star that correlates with that move.

Along with earning stars, the newly improved puzzler also features Game Center leaderboards and challenges. There’s a leaderboard for stars earned as well as one for total escapes.

Percepto doesn’t really explain a whole lot when it comes to how the game works. In addition to needing a little more explanation, it could also use a skip or hint button to help gamers on the more difficult levels. These could be earned based on stars or through in-app purchases, but they are most certainly needed because the last few levels are painfully difficult. Which brings up the point that Percepto could also use more levels.

Those who haven’t checked out this little puzzle game should give it a shot. It has its own unique charm and innovativeness to make it stand out over others in the App Store. Not only are the improved graphics and new user interface impressive, but the $0.99 cent price tag is hard to ignore considering the challenging gameplay. It’s definitely an improvement from the last version, but it still could use some tweaks to increase its rating values.
