Dell has announced that its 15-inch, and 17-inch Inspiron notebooks have been redesigned with 17 percent thinner and 15 percent lighter bodies. The smaller Inspiron now weigh under five pounds, compared to around 6 pounds for the previous 15-inch version. As before, the laptops come with an Intel Core i3 processor that can be upgraded to an i7 for a price. The smaller of the two includes a 1366 x 768 display, while the 17-inch model has one that's 1600 x 900, and they start with 500GB HDDs. The base model costs only $429.99 for 15 inches and $549.99 for 17.
Dell's Inspiron 15R and 17R notebooks add a touch of style to the mix and come with a silver brushed aluminum finish, or can be customized to have a blue, red, or pink aluminum finish. Additionally, those looking for a better screen can upgrade to a 1920 x 1080 display for either R series laptop. The Inspiron 15R starts at $549.99, with the 17R starting at $699.99. The Inspiron 15R will eventually have the option of including a touchscreen display, which will hike up the base price by $100.
