Jumpin Jackabee, A Gas Gas Gas

January 30, 2013

Jumpin Jackabee (Free) by One-Sock Prince puts you in the role of Jackabee, a simple jumping creature whose life-long goal of eating apples lands him in a strange world.

Looking like a flattened Q*bert level of cubes, each level features a starting point of a grassy hill, followed by a hole at the end. Jump Jackabee across the cubes and fall down the hole to advance to the next level.

Collecting apples and stars (each level has three) along the way will increase your score and go toward buying items in the store. Oh, and did I mention the wind up robots? Yeah, you’ll have to get past those. Guess there really is no such thing as a free meal.

After some brief introductory levels, you’ll finally come face-to-face with these robotic menaces. They will pace back and forth along the tiles, making you think twice about how to get those coveted stars and apples. All it takes is a single touch to turn Jackabee into a ghost, resulting in starting the level over again.

Controlling Jackabee is done by either single swiping or holding your finger down for the direction you want him to travel. Don’t worry about falling off the edge of the platform, since it can’t happen. That means you can zip Jackabee around, while only worrying about the robots.

Accessing different items can also help in regards to the robots. Items such as duynamite can either be picked up or bought in the store, to help give Jackabee an edge.

The animation and whimsical music (reminiscent of Contre Jour) all combine to make a stunning app.

With only one minimal banner on the main menu, this free game is mostly devoid of ads. It’s definitely a fun app for casual play.
