VJAM For iPhone Turns Your Boring Videos Into High-Quality Movies

When the camera first met the mobile phone, it was seen as a gimmick, but nowadays, many consumers look for a snapper in some way representative of some of the higher-end standalones in terms of performance and quality. A vast portion of smartphone users can take high-resolution images and shoot video in full HD, and naturally, the amount of supplementary apps offering advanced editing features has soared over the past year or so. But while the likes of Instagram have managed to secure a solid user base, the popularity of video editing is comparatively low, and it’s a trend music creation company UJAM wishes to buck with its VJAM offering.

The app incorporates Instagram’s biggest selling point – those photo filters – whilst also allowing you to run your clips over music composed by the legendary Hans Zimmer. The idea, quite clearly, is to bring some of that Hollywood magic back to the (very) small screen, and although these kinds of apps often lean towards the cheesy, VJAM is actually produces professional-looking results.

Much in the same way as Instagram users can sometimes make any shot look as though it has been shot by a pro on a DSLR, VJAM can morph your otherwise mundane video clips into Hollywood masterpieces. Well, not actually, but you get the idea.

It’s very easy to use. Simply load up a clip from your camera roll (or record something there and then), and pick your desired VJAM theme. There are a bunch pre-loaded already, and through in-app purchase, you can grab a few more. Some of the themes therein are free to download, while others cost 99 cents, but if you want to tinker, your best bet is to grab the Pro upgrade for $1.99 (at the time of writing).

Once your theme has been selected, both the visual elements and soundtrack are applied, and the music does its very best to remain in perfect harmony with your video clip. There is also the rather inevitable Facebook plugin, and although it’s not quite the same as publishing to a network of snap-happy Instagramers, it’s the easiest way to share your unique creation socially.

The music, in particular, is of very high quality, although it’s not perhaps the sort of app you would use everyday, it’s a great little piece of software for those looking to enhance their best moments. I certainly enjoyed my brief encounter with this app, and if you want to try your hand at playing Spielberg, grab it via the link below
