How I was able to achieve all my computing needs, for one week, just by using my iPhone 5

This has been an interesting week using nothing more than my iPhone 5. I did take my MacBook Air with me on my retreat to Wales but to be fair the 3G was next to useless so I used my iphone on the little Internet connection I had. I was based remotely in north west Anglesey in Wales on a island surrounded by sea. In order for me to drive off the island and drive on to the mainland. I had to rely on the tide being out, I stay here quite often so I roughly know the tide times yet my iPhone was useful in telling me at what times I could drive in and off the island. I used the iPhone to get updates on my email, update and read Twitter, update this blog and check in on iMessage and Facebook. I was able to get one bar of 3G if I went upstairs and positioned myself close to the window. If it was cloudy or wet then I would be back to EDGE or even worse GPRS, I was thankful for my one bar of 3G coverage on sunnier days. Yet I was able to meet my computing requirements with just my iPhone 5, everything I needed to achieve was done, the was no tricky computing requirements which meant I had to use my MacBook Air.

On the days I went to the local pub or nearest big town I would take advantage of the wifi and upload images or batch send photographs to friends because the Internet connection was quicker. However the point was without broadband speeds and 3G signals I was not cut off from the outside world and to be honest the lack of high speed Internet means that I can appreciate the www. But the biggest lesson I learnt was that I was able to achieve everything on my iPhone 5 and is testimony not just to the awesome hardware of the phone but also down to the iOS software.

I’m home now so back to using my iPad Mini on a connection powered by ZEN broadband now and it’s nice to be back to full speed but its also good to know that was able to achieve my computing needs for a week solely using my iPhone 5.
