Tech companies run memorable commercials during Super Bowl XLVII

There were only a handful of tech-related commercials that ran during the broadcast of Super Bowl XLVII, but for better or worse they were memorable.

Head and shoulders above its peers was GoDaddy’s “Perfect Match” commercial, featuring company spokeswoman and NASCAR driver Danica Patrick, model Bar Refaeli and a computer nerd.

In the commercial, Patrick explains that Refaeli, representing GoDaddy’s sexy side, and the nerd, representing the company’s smart side, make the perfect match before the two come together for a 10-second kiss that some may find repulsive.

GoDaddy also ran a second, far less memorable ad called “YourBigIdea.Co,” which showed multiple men in various parts of the world coming up with the same idea, but it’s the first guy who puts the idea online with a domain name who becomes rich and gets his own private jet with Patrick as the pilot.

Best Buy had perhaps the funniest tech commercial, featuring actress Amy Poehler running around one of the company’s stores. Poehler asks a Best Buy employee all sorts of questions we all have about tech, including “What’s LTE? Is it contagious?” and “What’s the cloud? Where is the cloud? Are we in the cloud now?!”

BlackBerry also got in on the action with a commercial for its new BlackBerry 10 mobile operating system. In the commercial, titled “What BlackBerry 10 CAN’T Do,” the company says: “In thirty seconds, it’s quicker to show you what it can’t do.”

Samsung rounded out the Super Bowl’s tech commercials with a lengthy spot featuring comedians Seth Rogan and Paul Rudd, actor Bob Odenkirk and NBA star LeBron James as the group tries to come up with a hit commercial for the company’s “next big thing.”
