Demographics and analytics of OS X 10.9 Mac testers

.

Based on Apple’s surprise release of OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion in February 2012, many are expecting Apple to unveil OS X 10.9 within the next few weeks. Last year, we reported that early builds of Apple’s next Mac operating system include Siri and Maps integration. Additionally, last year, we noted that we began seeing visits to 9to5mac.com from OS X 10.9 computers. With 10.9 expected to arrive in the near future, we have decided to share some interesting tidbits from 9to5mac.com analytics over the last month…

The screenshot above shows that all of our recent 10.9 hits have come from Cupertino, California or surrounding areas. While it is possible for web browser user agents to be faked, it is likely more difficult to fake both a user agent string and location (which is determined by client IP address).

The screenshot above shows which versions of Adobe Flash are currently being tested with OS X 10.9. Yes, Apple still must test Flash no matter how much or little Cupertino wants to use Flash.

The Apple employees testing 10.9 are using Macs with 2560 x 1440, 1920 x 1200, and 1440 x 900 resolutions.The 1920×1200 machines are the most interesting…perhaps 17-inch MacBook Pros?

Our traffic from 10.9 computers mostly comes from DaringFireball, direct views, our RSS readers and BusinessInsider.

You can also see the breakdown of how many test 10.9 Macs have Java enabled.

We’re keeping an eye on these analytics and will note any big changes in the days and weeks ahead.
