Quixey, An App Search Engine That Actually Works [MWC 2013]

mwc2013bug-coaBARCELONA, MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS – I’m willing to bet that you have – at some point – been frustrated by the App Store. More specifically, you have been driven crazy trying to find apps via search. Even apps which you know are there, which you have used before, and about which you know almost everything but their names.

Quixey is a search engine for Apps, and it will ease your App Store pain.

The engine behind Quixey is kind of like Google’s Page Rank, only for apps. It aggregates information from all over the web, checking who has linked to what and when, and uses this web to build its search.

The results are often uncanny. I used to use an e-mail app which could send mails direct to OmniFocus. It was hideous, ugly and awkward, but it did its job. The problem is that whenever I wanted to find it, I couldn’t. With Quixy’s natural language search I can just type “Send mail to OmniFocus” into the search bar and boom: almost instantly the top hit is eMailGanizer Pro (which is the app I was looking for, although thanks to OmniFocus’ Mail Drop I don’t need it any more, thank God).

Quixey’s business plan is to sell its tech to search providers and let them use it in their own apps. But lucky for you, you don’t have to wait to use it. Just head over to Quixey.com and get started. An app is on its way, but in the meantime you can just add the bookmark to your home screen and it’ll launch as a web app.
