Crosswords Pro is pretty much exactly what any crosswords fan could want. It's easy to use, it offers plenty of different crossword puzzles and it's suitably challenging, too!

For the $2.99 asking price, 34 puzzles plus a weekly challenge are included, with the potential to pay to unlock even more. Given the size of each crossword, it's pretty good value as it should take most players quite a while to complete. Each puzzle, while huge, offers a fair mix of smaller words and long ones. Color coding helps pave the way to ensuring players know what's going on. For instance, enter the wrong letter somewhere and a scribble mark obscures it, demonstrating that it's incorrect. Pencilling in answers is possible, as well as using 'pen' to help the player figure out how they're doing. It's all done simply yet attractively.

The game jumps to the next clue, as soon as one is completed, making it simple to just work one's way through the puzzle. It's also possible to view the list of clues, away from the board, for those who want a different interface. There's a Hints feature, too, offering the solution to individual letters, but I did feel a little like I was cheating myself when using it. At all times, the keyboard can be hidden away, offering maximum room either in portrait or landscape mode.

Everything about Crosswords Pro is as clean and simple as it can get. Its simple controls are ideal, never feeling overly complicated or frustrating. There's no gimmicks or anything like that which detracts from the gameplay. The focus is squarely placed on word game skills. It's the kind of game I've already found myself using to wake my brain up properly in the morning and I can see such a trend continuing.
