ZTE Geek, the Android-based smartphone that was made official back in April, appears to be nearing its official availability, as it has already received the necessary approvals for use in China.

The mobile phone was spotted at the Chinese equivalent of FCC with the 2GHz Intel Atom Z2580 Clover Trail+ processor packed inside, but expected to land on the market as a mid-range handset, gizchina reports.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the ZTE Geek was made official with a 5-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) touchscreen display, 1GB of RAM, and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean loaded on top.

The new handset also arrives on the market with an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, as well as with a 1MP front camera for making video calls.

ZTE is expected to launch the smartphone in China with a price of around 2400 Yuan ($392 / €301).
