Analysts have different views on C2000

Giant chip maker Intel launched a new generation Atom chip this week, which was focused on servers used in data centers. The nnew chip from Intel is titled C2000 and has 13 different versions focusing on the micro servers like HP’s Project Moonshoot.

Analysts did not have common consensus over the new offering from Intel. Analyst Doug Freedman at RBC tagged it a “compelling offering”, whereas Hans Mosesmann at Raymond James said that it was a hasty action by Intel to safeguard its position in the data industry from the new server chips based on designs from British chip-design firm ARM.

Investors are positive

Investors, however, gave their thumbs up to this new development in Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) as the stock price shot up by more than a percentage. To date, the price of shares has surged by about 10 percent since the starting of the year.

However, the personal computer business seems to remain in red. Globally, the PC market is struggling more than ever and Intel CFO Stacy Smith said in an interview to The Wall Street Journal that PC has “died half a dozen times” already.

Smith was echoing what Intel already accepted a month ago. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) last month said that this was the best time to take home a PC, and consumers have already started doing that. Supported by studies from research firm IDC, the chip maker said that consumers are frustrated when using their old PC, and tablets cannot perform every task  done by a PC.

Mobile poses challenge for Intel

However, Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) is lagging behind in the mobile market, and in this context the company might announce some efforts that could help it to tackle the dominant position of ARM in the mobile market. Bay Trail will be one such product that will draw major attraction and discussion as it is the new generation of mobile chip, which is efficient in power consumption and has powerful computing engine. The latest talks that surfacing are that various Intel customers will declare that they will use Intel chip in tablets and phones. However, demand of those devices based on Intel chips will be a concern.
