TouchArcade Game of the Week: ‘Unpossible’

TouchArcade Rating:

The idea behind the TouchArcade Game of the Week is that every Friday afternoon we post the one game that came out this week that we think is worth giving a special nod to. Now, before anyone goes over-thinking this, it doesn’t necessarily mean our Game of the Week pick is the highest scoring game in a review, the game with the best graphics, or really any other quantifiable “best" thing. Instead, it’s more just us picking out the single game out of the week’s releases that we think is the most noteworthy, surprising, interesting, or really any other hard to describe quality that makes it worth having if you were just going to pick up one.

These picks might be controversial, and that’s OK. If you disagree with what we’ve chosen, let’s try to use the comments of these articles to have conversations about what game is your game of the week and why.

Without further ado…

Unpossible

Brian Duke of Acceleroto has been working on Unpossible ($1.99) for quite some time, and it’s been really cool running in to him at various conventions and seeing the game in different stages of its development. When he first showed us the initial programmer art-laden prototype, I never imagined it’d turn out as cool as it did.

Unpossible ($1.99) shares a similar premise to games like Boost 2 ($1.99) in that you’re tilting or touching to quickly avoid obstacles that are flying at you as you travel along a circular… thing. The path you’re on curves all over the place, and obstacles have cleverly placed slots and holes in them to allow you to get a quick look at what’s coming up next. Doing well involves quick reflexes, and both keeping an eye on the obstacles that are an immediate threat while using the clues you can get for what’s coming ahead to try to prepare for those obstacles.

Oh, and it’s all going really fast.

The game isn’t getting as much traction in our forums since it was released as it did before it was released which is a little weird. Either way, if you missed that it was out or are in the mood for another go really really fast and avoid things game, Unpossible is a great one.
