History, A&E and Lifetime networks launch on Apple TV

All three channels launched on Monday through a silent update, and are now available on Apple's set-top box. Content includes popular shows like History's "Pawn Stars," and original movies from Lifetime.

The debut comes just days after A&E and History both brought live streaming of their channels to their respective iPad applications. Users are required to login with their cable provider to access the live streams, as well as on-demand content.

Apple has been steadily adding content options to the Apple TV in recent months as it faces increased competition from new devices like the Amazon Fire TV. New additions from this year alone include ACC Sports, iTunes Festival, WWE Network, and Red Bull TV.

Revamped Apple TV hardware is expected to launch later this year with motion controls that will allow users to interact with the device without the need for a remote control.
