Building upon what worked so well for its predecessor, NightCap, NightCap Pro is an easy recommendation to make for those keen on taking photographs in low light situations. As before, it'll require a steady hand (which explains the slightly blurry screenshots below) for the best results, but it's worth it.

NightCap Pro comes with a bunch of options, not just restricted to dark situations. A Grain Reduction mode helps reduce image noise and works well in conjunction with the zoom control, while Light Trail mode is handy for taking snaps with unlimited exposure time. The true strengths come from the Night and Light modes though, with Light mode boosting brightness while preserving image detail, while Night mode genuinely does offer a great low light experience.

It's a tricky process to explain in words because it's the kind of thing that needs to be seen. A steady hand is vital, otherwise things simply look blurry, but the difference between using NightCap Pro and the stock camera app is certainly noticeable when dealing with a darker setting. The darker it is, the slower one has to be with grabbing the shot, but it's worth taking the time to do so.

Elsewhere, there's a full complement of handy tools, such as manual exposure, the ability to lock white balance, focus, and exposure separately, as well as a self timer and burst mode. NightCap Pro isn't just a tool for night time, it's convenient whatever the time of day. It's possible to take videos using such settings also.

While no camera is going to be able to take a photo in the dark, NightCap Pro does nearly everything else. It's a fine successor to its earlier version, and really quite effective. Just remember to keep those hands steady and reap the benefits.
