iPhone 5 battery gone bad? Apple might replace it for you, for free

While many of us are waiting for Apple to release its next iPhone, the Cupertino giant is still looking after people who bought the iPhone 5.

Apple's investigations have concluded that "a very small percentage of iPhone 5 devices may suddenly experience shorter battery life or need to be charged more frequently."

According to Apple the affected iPhone 5 handsets were sold between September 2012 and January 2013 and fall within a limited serial number range.

The replacement battery replacement process will be offered in the U.S. and China from August 22, 2014, while in other countries it will be available starting August 29, 2014.

To find out if your handset is affected, check out the official announcement page on Apple's website. The replacement program is available through Apple Retail Stores, Authorized Apple Service Providers, and via AppleCare.

Back in April of this year Apple identified an issue with the sleep/wake button on some iPhone 5 handsets and had a replacement program to repair that component.
