Intel in Taiwanese IoT tie-tup

Expands partnership with Chunghwa Telecom

Intel has attracted another name to its SDN and Internet of Things strategies, this time in Asia.

According to reports out of Taiwan, Chipzilla has signed an agreement with Chunghwa Telecom extending their existing cloud computing partnership with IoT and SDN work. As CTimes reports, the two have signed an MOU to accelerate their efforts.

The aim, according to the company's Gordon Graylish, is to “realise the vision of the connected society in Taiwan”.

The cloud computing Chunghwa Telecom has already carried out with Intel will be reworked as a fully-fledged data centre, says president of the carrier's laboratories Hung Feng-yue, with lower power consumption, and there'll be a marketing push to bring more business customers on board.

The capabilities include the Virtuoso enterprise private cloud and a Cloud BOSS business operation management system.

On Internet of Things projects, the partners will be working on “smart city, smart home, energy management, intelligent security, fleet management and healthcare apps”, the report states.

Intel's role will be to provide its IoT gateway solutions “as the foundation for developing the IoT apps”, the CTimes report says. It will provide the secure connection back into Chunghwa's cloud. ®
