Interesting combination iPhone 6 stand/power case ‘iStand 6’ crowdsourcing campaign starts today

An Indiegogo crowdsourcing campaign for iStand 6, an MFi-certified combined power case and stand for the iPhone 6, starts today – with early bird pricing starting at just $40.

The iStand 6 is the first all-in-one case for the iPhone 6 with MFi certificate. In addition to providing top of the line protection, the iStand 6 has battery backup, a built-in kickstand, and storage for additional SIM Cards.

The 3500mAh battery is almost double that of the iPhone 6’s own battery, providing approximately three times the life all-in …

The stand provides a convenient all-in-one solution for hot-deskers or travellers, allowing you to work with the screen on without external power. The built-in SIM card slot is also handy for travellers who use a local SIM while overseas.

I’ve been testing a prototype of the iStand 6 for a couple of weeks, and it does what it claims. It also feels well-built, and the flip-back stand design means it’s really easy to insert and remove your iPhone. The prototype is of the black one, but three other colors will be available (the orange one is not available direct to customers, it just shows a custom-color option available for wholesalers).

The campaign ends on February 20th, with delivery scheduled for March. You can find the campaign page here.

Trying to work out what the market would be for this device and coming up with nothing. As it is, power pack cases have little purpose anymore, as iPhones last plenty long enough for most people (read: all day). So you’re limited to the outdoorsman or field worker that needs constant use of iPhone but has no access to power….but then the STAND part makes little sense, as I don’t see the outdoors type setting the phone down on a flat surface. Not even to mention the absurdity of how much bulk that case adds to a beautifully slim iPhone 6…

So essentially, there is no market whatsoever.

There’s no downside to the stand part – it doesn’t get in the way when you don’t need it.

No downside other than the design of the product and sheer bulk that it adds. But regardless, I’m thinking solely about the market for the product…of which I believe there is none. Some people wrongly believe there is a market for every half baked 2-in-1 iPhone accessory, and there just isn’t.

Everyone has their own needs and tastes in cases. I rarely use one at all, though the iPhone 6 got me to use the Apple leather one just to make it black rather than gray. But this is a case I’d use from time-to-time.

I take you aren’t logged into Skype for long periods on your phone. I use Webex, Skype, iMessage and am on conf calls at the same all day – luckily sometimes I have my MBP in front with me (and my iPhone 6 is charging) but when I don’t I rely on being able to be reached via my iPhone.

Think of this as the perfect business roadwarrior iPhone case.

Absolutely hideous. Couldn’t pay me to use this junk.

Call me a pessimist…but considering the imagery are mostly renderings and they only have a handful of working prototypes in their videos I think March delivery is a tad aggressive. But I guess backers are used to delivery delays these days…
