Apple Watch, 12-inch MacBook Air Release Dates Confirmed By Analyst

As January starts to draw to a close we’re almost one month into the year that the Apple Watch is going to be released, which means we have thirty days lesser to wait. According to a new report by KGI Securities analyst Ming Chi Kuo we shouldn’t have too much longer to twiddle our thumbs though, with the Apple Watch said to be on track for a March release date.

Tessellating well with existing release date rumors, Kuo has the Apple Watch shipping in March with further announcements about the product as well as pre-orders set to come beforehand. Specifications such as expected battery life are expected to be announced sooner rather than later, and with supply expected to be constrained due to low part yields, pre-orders are likely to be required, although an iPhone level of interest is not expected.

Speaking of the iPhone, Kuo also says that Apple’s smartphone shipments would be in excess of expectations for the first quarter of 2015 with over 61 million units shipped. The iPad is expected to move 10 million, which while not comparable to iPhone numbers, is not to be sniffed at.

Beyond existing products and ones that have been announced, Kuo also believes the rumored 12-inch MacBook Air will go on sale in the first quarter which again fits well with existing rumors surrounding the notebook. The new machine is believed to be thinner and lighter than existing Airs while also managing to be fanless thanks to a new low-power Intel Core M CPU. Controversially though, rumors also have the 12-inch MacBook Air dropping all external ports bar one USB Type-C connector, something that has pundits arguing amongst themselves as to whether such a move is even possible at this point.

The MacBook Air lineup is destined for a refresh as is the iPad’s, both of which will see sales likely improve for both product lines – if only for a short period.
