Apple TV refreshed with ‘120 Sports’ channel

Apple TV 120 SPORTS

Apple TV users will notice a channel refresh today adding ‘120 SPORTS’ to the lineup. The update follows the addition of the official Cricket Australia channel and The Tennis Channel earlier this month further adding to the sports content offered on the Apple TV set-top box.

120 Sports, backed in part by Sports Illustrated, describes itself as “a first-of-its-kind network partnership involving multiple leagues and media properties created for the digital generation and the devices it uses most. In 120 Sports, today’s fans will have access to unauthenticated video programming through a new platform built to intuitively integrate video and data in ways they haven’t experienced before.

While 120 Sports also offers an iOS app and content on the web, the Apple TV channel is organized by Dashboard, Timeline, and Catch-Up sections.

Apple TV users can view content through the 120 Sports channel without a cable subscription or any other paid membership. 120 Sports says it updates daily with more than 10 hours of free content to watch from the MLB, NBA, NHL, PGA Tour, NCAA Football, NCAA Basketball, NASCAR and more.

120 Sports joins the lineup of existing Apple TV sports-related channels including WatchESPN, UFC TV, MLB.TV, NFL Now, Red Bull TV, ACC Sports, WWE Network, MLS, NBA, NHL, Tennis Channel Everywhere, and Willow. Australian Apple TV users are seeing a second channel addition this month as well with TENPlay showing up. The new channel is available over-the-air without a software update.

‘Refreshed’ typically means a new hardware version is available, no?

  2. Jonny - 9 years ago

Can anyone confirm if this is for Canada as well?

    • Stephen Weppler - 9 years ago

Just did a restart to make sure, no go in Canada!

Makes sense, the 120 Sports app isn’t on the Canadian iOS store either

I’m sure like every other channel, its worthless.

I love my AppleTV, but not for any of the so-called “content” Apple has added to it in the last few years.

Starting to think they’re over compensating in the sports area, too.

Be nice if Apple would add some football (soccer for the Americans) from around the globe. The only readily available leagues televised in North America are EPL and MSL. I keep hearing that there is some good football played in other countries, but I don’t get to see any of it. :(

Amazon video and BBC iPlayer, then the Apple TV will be indispensable for me,

Would love to finally see Amazon Video on there as the airplay from iOS app fails from time to time which is annoying but this is pretty big for a little guy like 120 Sports.

I loved my Apple TV the first few years but, like many of Apples programs , it fell to neglect. I moved on from MobileMe, iWorks, and Aperture and, now, I have moved on from Apple TV to the Amazon Fire stick and Roku. More than simple *tweeks* are needed. A complete revamp of the Apple TV ranging from software to hardware are needed.

I disagree, they have totally revamped the aps on Appletv. You tube just did a major over haul. You needed a newer device though. Within the last 3 years. I use mine all the time.

  8. Does anyone think that Apple will add a Shomi app?

Give me Formula1 and MotoGP ala WWE Network and I’ll bite.

I have to say it just doesn’t compare to having your own HTPC setup. None of these devices can really touch having a xbmc/plex installation running.

Not seeing the channel yet. Very curious to see what is actually on it. I’m in small-town USA.

You may try opening the Settings app on Apple TV and navigating to General > Restart if the channel doesn’t appear already.

      • jimgramze - 9 years ago

Just tried Restart and it didn’t work. What I have sometimes experienced is that it takes a few days for a new announced channel to actually appear on my Apple TV. Maybe it is because I have a 2nd gen device?
