More Goods News For Apple? 'Steve Jobs' Biopic Finally Gets Underway

On the same day of a record-breaking earnings report, Danny Boyle began shooting the biopic of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) co-founder Steve Jobs, according to multiple reports.. Michael Fassbender will play the titular character in the film. The screenplay will be divided into three acts, each one taking place off stage at one of Apple's famous product launches.

In recent months the film has seen two stars, Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale, drop out of the lead role. The filmmakers have also switched studios going from Sony Corp (NYSE: SNE) to Universal Studios. Co-starring with Fassbender will be:

  • Kate Winslet, who will play former Macintosh marketing chief Joanna Hoffman

  • Seth Rogen, who will play Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak

  • Jeff Daniels, who will play Apple CEO John Sculley

Executives are hoping that with a more established cast, the biopic will do better than "Jobs," a 2013 film on the Apple founder's life starring Aston Kutcher. That film struggled with critics and was disappointing at the box office, making only $36 million worldwide after an extensive marketing campaign.
