Mac users finally can test OneDrive for Business, Microsoft's storage and synchronization cloud service.

Microsoft made available the first public preview of OneDrive for Business for Mac on January 28. Microsoft execs had said last year to expect OneDrive for Business for Mac before the end of calendar 2014, but it never materialized.

Microsoft is in the midst of unifying its OneDrive consumer and OneDrive for Business sync engines. The two services have little in common at present other than the OneDrive name.Microsoft officials said earlier this month that a new unified sync engine (known internally as "OneSync") will enable the ability to sync shared folders, like Dropbox does, and to selectively sync across all platforms.

The OneDrive for Business client for Mac allows users to access and take their OneDrive for Business files offline. Users can manage and sync files through the Mac Finder experience, according to Microsoft's blog post.

The preview of the OneDrive for Business for Mac client is available for dowload from the Microsoft Download Center.

In other OneDrive news, Microsoft also rolled out an update to its OneDrive for iOS app that brings together users personal and business OneDrive accounts from a single app (the way Microsoft already does on Android and Windows Phone). The updated iOS OneDrive app (version 5.0) is available for download from the Apple app store.

Microsoft officials also announced a number of new OneDrive photo-management enhancements for OneDrive for Windows, OneDrive for Android and OneDrive for iOS on January 28, as well. OneDrive for iOS is getting these enhancements first, as of today, with the previously mentioned 5.0 OneDrive for iOS release.
