Report: Apple Watch Edition Buyers Get Special Appointments, Tech Support

Those looking to buy Apple's super-expensive smartwatches will get a much different purchasing experience at the Apple Store than normal people.

If you're planning to buy one of Apple's more expensive iterations of the Apple Watch—specifically, its $10,000 Watch Edition version of the device, which comes with an 18-karat gold case, a sapphire crystal display, and a variety of different watch buckles to choose from—you might want to wait a moment and make sure you understand all the potential perks that come along with the device.

According to a new report from 9to5Mac, Apple has allegedly crafted up a much more personalized purchasing experience for those intending to buy one of the ultra-luxe watches. Or, as Apple is allegedly phrasing it to its retail employees, a shopping experience that "is intended to be extremely personal, elegant, and purposeful."

First up, potential Apple Watch Edition purchasers won't have to wait in any kind of line in order to check out one of the devices. (That said, we're not quite sure what would stop any ol' person from saying they want to check out an Apple Watch Edition and getting the white-glove treatment.)

These special appointments will occur in a special private area separate from the standard Apple Store floor. You'll get your own Apple Store Expert to chat with, an employee who has been specially trained to both showcase the device and work with Apple's more exclusive customers, for lack of a better way to phrase it.

The appointments can last up to an hour, which includes up to a half an hour to just to try on different versions of the Apple Watch Edition. We somehow suspect these time limits are a bit arbitrary, however; we doubt Apple would be unwilling to extend someone's time spent with an Apple Watch Edition if they were dead-serious about purchasing one, but just indecisive.

Owing to their price, and Apple's fear over potential theft, customer will normally only be able to try on two Apple Watch Edition devices at once. If they opt for a third, that's a judgment call by Apple Store employees. And, yes, potential purchasers can even compare an Apple Watch Edition smartwatch to a standard (and much less expensive) Apple Watch, if they want. (Cue Apple Store employees grimacing at the thought of losing such a big sale.)

Those who end up purchasing Apple's super-expensive smartwatches will be able to get personalized help if they want to set up their devices that day in the store. Otherwise, they can make use of a new Virtual Personal Setup program, which will basically just be a videoconference between that person and an Apple specialist. Apple Watch Edition buyers will also be given a special phone number they can call, exclusive to those who purchase Apple's expensive watches, to get 24/7 technical support for their devices (for the first two years, at least; three, if you upgrade to AppleCare+)
