Reports are starting to appear of issues which may cause an Apple Watch’s Digital Crown to become difficult to rotate.
Each and every time Apple launches a new product there seems to be some problem or another that leads to something verging on mass hysteria. The latest of these issues to befall the newly released Apple Watch is one which sees the Digital Crown become difficult to turn or click, with some people reporting that the movement eases after an initial difficulty in making the Digital Crown rotate.
The reports of potential Digital Crown-based sticking issues started to appear in Apple’s own support forums. Affected watches include both the aluminium Apple Watch Sport and stainless steel Apple Watch, which should prove that the problem does not simply affect one particular model. We haven’t seen any reports of Apple Watch Editions being affected, but then again we suspect there hasn’t been too many of those sold just yet, if ever.
Potential fixes for a sticking Digital Crown are documented in Apple’s own support document, with the good old method of running the watch under some warm water top of the list of things to try. Apple believes that dirt or debris may be to blame and a quick wash should see that cleaned right out. Failing that though, forum-goers have reported that they have been quoted a week in order for Apple Watches to be fixed by Geniuses, while others have had their watches swapped out completely which suggests there are at least some units available for such occasions.
Right now we aren’t ready to call this anything silly like ‘Crowngate’ because there isn’t any real indication of how widespread this issue is. Hopefully your Apple Watch is behaving just fine, and long may that continue.
