On the whole the Apple Watch rollout has been smooth, but some users are experiencing random issues. But don't panic. The good news is that there are quick fixes for the most common problems.

Here are some things you can try if your Apple Watch starts to misbehave.

Apple Watch locks up

Simultaneously hold down the Digital Crown and the side button until the Apple logo appears.

Apple Watch overheating when charging

This is usually down to the fact that it isn't mated properly with the charger, so realign the Apple Watch with the magnetic charger.

Apple Watch is not charging

First, make sure you are using the Apple charger.

Then check to see that the Apple Watch is mated up to the charger correctly. Readjust and see if that helps.

If that doesn't help, turn off the Apple Watch by holding down the side button (not while it is on charge) and swiping the display (a process similar to powering down the iPhone or iPad). Next, reboot the Apple Watch by simultaneously holding down the Digital Crown and the side button until the Apple logo appears.

Apple Watch drains iPhone battery rapidly

First, turn off the Apple Watch by holding down the side button (not while it is on charge) and swiping the display (a process similar to powering down the iPhone or iPad). Next, reboot the Apple Watch by simultaneously holding down the Digital Crown and the side button until the Apple logo appears.

Another possibility is a rogue app, which you might be able to spot by deleting apps from the pair iPhone selectively (you can't delete them off the Apple Watch directly) and checking to see if the excessive battery drain condition fixed.

The nuclear option

If the simple fixes outlined above don't work for you, or you've messed up your settings, you can wipe the Apple Watch and start afresh.

To do this, from the Apple Watch go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings.

This will restore your Apple Watch to factory settings.
