Take note, Apple Watch wearers. If you use your high-tech timepiece behind the wheel, you might just find yourself in trouble with the law — at least in Canada, that is.

According to a report from Montreal's CTV News, a Quebec man was recently slapped with a $120 fine for using his Apple Watch while driving. Jeffrey Macesin, a self-proclaimed "Apple Guy," also received four points on his license.

Macesin admitted to using the watch while driving to operate his music, but said he didn't think he was breaking the law.

"I have [my phone] in the bag charging while the auxiliary cable is plugged in to the radio and [the watch] controls my phone to play the music," Macesin told CTV News of the incident. "I was changing songs [on the Apple Watch] with my [other] hand on the steering wheel."

"There was a cop car behind me and he didn't have his lights on yet, but then he turned them on and I thought maybe he just wanted me to get out of the way," he continued. "I was just confused."

Macesin was reportedly given the ticket under Section 439.1 of the Quebec Highway Safety Code, which reads: "No person may, while driving a road vehicle, use a hand-held device that includes a telephone function."

But Macesin argues that he wasn't technically holding a phone. He is contesting the ticket and considering hiring a lawyer.
