AMD has announced its latest addition to its line up of desktop A-Series processors, with the A10-7870K APU.
The APU has been designed for Windows 10 and delivers best-in-class experience for eSports and online gaming with up to 48 per cent higher frame rates, as well as improved efficiency for DirectX 12. Check out a tech demo of DX12 here.
Matt Skynner, corporate VP and general manager for computing and graphics business unit at AMD, said: “AMD takes a major step forward today by unveiling the world’s most advanced eSports and online gaming processor technology in the A10-7870K APU, giving players the ability to game like a pro without spending like one.”
It is priced at $137 (£90) and is powered by 12 compute cores with up to 4.1 GHz CPU clock and 95W TDP speeds, and comes with up to five per cent faster system performance compared to other competitors.
Plus, gamers can view content in 1080p thanks to the APU’s new features, including Virtual Screen Resolution (VSR) for improved image quality when gaming at lower resolutions, and AMD FreeSync.
AMD’s new APU is also supported by the existing AMD socket FM2+ motherboard ecosystem, making it easy for users to upgrade to the new processor.

AMD will also be lighting up Times Square’s largest HD display in New York.
The 25,000 square foot display, which incorporates 24 million pixels, will be powered by AMD FirePro professional graphics cards.
