Microsoft has been busy hyping up its 2016 financial year with CEO Satya Nadella promising ‘magical things’ over what could be a critical 12 months for the technology giant.

In a staff memo Nadella emphasised his focus upon mobile computing and the cloud by reconfiguring its suite of productivity software to operate on as many devices as possible, whilst also looking ahead with enthusiasm to the launch of Windows10 and Hololens.

Nadella wrote: “I believe that we can do magical things when we come together with a shared mission, clear strategy, and a culture that brings out the best in us individually and collectively

“We will need to innovate in new areas, execute against our plans and make some tough choices in areas where things are not working.”

Precisely what these ‘tough choices’ may be wasn’t spelled out but the companies Windows Phone platform has long struggled to make headway against iOS and Android.
