The Apple Watch has just started selling in stores, after its online launch in April, but new reports are already detailing Apple’s plans for the second-generation device.

According to Korean news site Naver, the Apple Watch 2 will have the same design of its predecessor but some subtle changes are also expected. The device will keep its rectangular screen, which will come in the same 38mm and 42mm sizes complete with same resolutions as the original Apple Watch – that means 340 x 272 and 390 x 312, respectively.

LG will continue to provide AMOLED displays for the Apple Watch, including the second-gen versions though the company will not be the exclusive provider of Apple Watch 2 screens, the report suggests.

Samsung is apparently also going to manufacture Apple Watch 2 screens, Naver says. The Apple Watch 2 is also tipped to use flexible OLED displays that would make room for a bigger battery. This particular screen technology would also help Apple reduce the thickness and weight of the smartwatch.

Apple is likely to launch the Apple Watch 2 at some point next year. While the design will remain largely unchanged, Apple does plan several new features for the Apple Watch 2 – read more about them by following this link.
