Skylake, the follow-on to Broadwell, looks like it will be the most important processor update that Intel has released in a decade.

Images from a slide deck leaked by FanlessTech show some huge performance and battery life boosts across the board.

Intel 'Skylake' spec leak

The chips are based on the same 14-nanometer architecture as Broadwell but have been redesigned for better performance and battery life.

Four variants are detailed, with the Y-series, U-series, and H-series all being mobile BGA-packaged chips aimed at mainstream notebooks, ultraportables, and high-end notebooks respectively. The slides claim that performance is up by 17 percent, 10 percent, and 11 percent respectively, and that the Y- and U-series chips will both see up to 1.4 hours longer battery life when powering a typical system.

The S-series is a desktop chip and comes in an LGA package for the new LGA-1151 socket. Here Intel is claiming an 11 percent faster CPU and a 22 percent lower TDP, down from 84W to 65W.

But the real performance boost is in the graphics department, with significant improvements across the board for the integrated Intel HD Graphics chip:

  • Y-series: Up to 41 percent faster
  • U-series: Up to 34 percent faster
  • H-series: Up to 16 percent faster
  • S-series: Up to 28 percent faster

Not detailed in the slides is a rumored K-series variant, which is expected to have an unlocked multiplier for overclocking.
