Rumor has it Apple will finally unveil its next-gen Apple TV in September, possibly alongside other new iDevices.

In March, BuzzFeed News suggested a successor to Cupertino's set-top box would be revealed at June's annual Worldwide Developer's Conference. By May, however, the tech giant decided to instead focus on the launch of its new Apple Music streaming service and delay an Apple TV reveal, the site said.

But now it's ready, BuzzFeed said in a new report, citing sources familiar with Apple's plans. The device will be "pretty much" as described in March, but "more polished." Cupertino reportedly slimmed down the chassis, integrated its A8 chip, revamped the remote with touchpad input, increased internal storage, and added OS support for Siri.

What's more, the tech giant will allegedly debut its Apple TV App Store and the accompanying software development kit.

Apple did not immediately respond to PCMag's request for comment.

Cupertino has not revamped its streaming device since 2012. It did, however, recently drop the price from $99 to $69, suggesting a new version may be on its way.

Whenever the gadget does arrive, don't expected 4K streaming capabilities. Despite early tests by Netflix, Amazon, and YouTube, 4K video isn't quite ready for primetime. And Apple, never one to rush into a product release, isn't quite ready to integrate the technology.

For a long time, the company claimed its set-top box was just a hobby. But after reaching a milestone 20 million sales last year, and making $1 billion in 2013, Cupertino is taking it more seriously.

Apple in April was the first to launch HBO's standalone streaming service, HBO Now, which debuted exclusively on the Apple TV and iOS devices for $14.99. Subscribers can access the premium network's full lineup of content, from original series and documentaries to movies and sports programming.
