Tweetbot for Mac updated to version 2.1 with iOS feature parity, bug fixes

Tweetbot for Mac has been updated with several new features and fixes that bring parity with the recently-released update for its iOS counterpart. A few additional Mac-specific tweaks have been made to provide a better tweeting experience.

First off, the all-new Activity view has been added to the Mac client. Like in the iOS version, you’ll find all of the recent favorites, retweets, and other interactions you’ve received in this tab. Quoted tweets also show in the mentions tab to help improve conversation flow.

Support for in-app viewing of videos from Twitter, Instagram, and Vine has been added, and Twitter’s native video hosting service has been added as an upload option. Images now appear in direct message threads, and the image viewer supports pinch-to-zoom. Another popular gesture, swiping back in profiles views, is also supported.

A few extra functional changes have been made for added convenience. Searching for other users when composing a tweet will now show better, more accurate results. The tweet detail view allows you to select text, and the “retweets” button on that view will now pull up a list of everyone who retweeted a specific post. Finally, a “scroll to last read” option in the View menu will let you quickly jump back to your previous position if you’ve scrolled away from it.

As usual, bugs have been squashed and performance improvements have been made. You can download Tweetbot 2.1 as a free update from the Mac App Store. New buyers will need to pay $12.99 the new, lower price of $9.99.

Did they fix Tweetmarker OR iCloud sync? Please?

iCloud sync has always worked for me. Haven’t seen any reported issues with it. If you’re having a problem I’d contact the developers for support.

Between mac and iOS? Really? I’ve done numerous tests on this, and it simply does not work. Go ahead, load up Tweetbot on Mac, wait for new articles to load, scroll to a specific article. Then go over to the iOS side… nothing happens.

$9.99 in the Mac App Store right now.

Only complaint I have so far is that they changed, without making any reference to it in the release notes, the functionality of trackpad swipes/gestures. In 2.0, if you two-finger swiped right to left on a tweet, you’d pull up the tweet details, and if you two-finger swiped left to right, you’d pull up an @ reply window. In 2.1, they switched the tweet details swipe from right to left to left to right, which is just an unnecessarily confusing alteration, and eliminated the ability to quick-swipe to an @ reply window.

I just figured this out – completely by accident. I thought my app was broken since the update due to not being able to swipe for more. This change is totally illogical. Swipe Left to right to reveal info that appears to come from the right side? That makes no sense whatsoever. WHY???

does this new version show embedded tweets in the timeline, or do I still have to click on it like every other mac twitter client I have?

Does the new version show embedded tweets in the timeline yet? This is a maddening non-feature, I can seem to find a Mac client that does this like all iOS versions now do.
