Microsoft explained this week that it was forced to pull its Windows 10 November update over a privacy settings snafu.

It turns out that some users with Windows 10 who installed the November upgrade saw it erase their privacy settings. According to Redmond, the glitch affected "an extremely small number of people," and it promised to restore those settings "over the coming days."

"It will not impact future installs of the November update, which is available today," Microsoft said.

The Windows 10 update disappeared last week, just days after it launched. As PCMag sister site ExtremeTech reported, multiple users found that "upon installing the latest version, they reboot and find various applications have been removed from their systems."

Specifically, according to Ars Technica, the glitch affected four settings covering unique advertising IDs, apps running in the background, Web filtering, and settings syncs between devices.

Microsoft then quietly removed the update and provided no insight into when it would return, until today.

Anyone who previously downloaded the update will be able to re-download a cumulative update that includes a fix for the issue, as well as all of the patches and features the November update delivered.
