Serato Announces New Pyro iPhone App for Seamless Playlists

After spending years as a DJ-favorite, Serato has announced its first consumer product -- the Pyro app for iPhone.

After spending more than a decade as one of producers and DJs’ favorite tools, Serato has announced its first consumer product — the Pyro app for iPhone.

The New Zealand software company’s new iOS music player app mixes streaming music from Spotify’s 30 million song library and users’ own mp3s in iTunes into a single app for a seamless playlist.

Pyro acts like a digital DJ using Serato’s pitch and time technology to slow or speed a track to beat match and transition into what comes next in the organized playlist. And if a tempo difference is too great between songs, it uses the “echo out” standard DJ trick to ease ahead.

The app also works with Spotify to include the streaming service’s recommendation engine so that when a user’s selected songs run out, Pyro loads songs based off of what has already been played in that session.

As well, Pyro will include curated collections from artists, labels and other partners, including at launch Diplo‘s Mad Decent record label, A-Trak‘s Fool’s Gold Records, Steve Aoki‘s Dim Mak, DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Roots

“We created Pyro so that everyone can experience their music, beautifully mixed,” Serato co-founder and CEO A.J. Bertenshaw said in a statement. “Almost two decades ago, Serato changed the professional audio industry forever, and our software has been revolutionizing the industry ever since. Now, with Serato Pyro, we’re ready to mix it up again and change the way music lovers everywhere listen to music.”

The Serato Pyro app is currently available for free from the App Store on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The company plans to launch for Android later this year.
