Changing your Apple ID credit card info directly from your iPhone

Your Apple ID is used whenever you want to make purchases from one of Apple’s online digital content stores. This includes the App Store, Books Store, and iTunes Store.

From time to time, you may switch credit card providers, get a new credit card number, or opt to use a different payment method than the one you’re already using.

It’s easy to change your Apple ID payment information right from your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad and in this tutorial, our aim is to teach you how.

How to change the credit card you have on file with Apple

You can change your payment method on iPhone in a couple of different spots, Settings and the App Store. Follow the steps below for whichever is most convenient for you.

Change your credit card in Settings

1) Open Settings and select your Apple ID at the top.

2) Choose Payment & Shipping.

3) Enter your password, Touch ID, or Face ID when prompted.

4) You’ll see a list of payment methods, if you have more than one assigned to your account. The one at the top is the default card.

To rearrange the payment methods, tap Edit and then drag them to new positions in the list. Again, place the one you want as your default at the top.

To remove one, select it and pick Remove Payment Method.

To add a new one, tap Add Payment Method and follow the prompts.

5) Tap Done.

4) Just like above in the Settings, you’ll see a list of payment methods with the one at the top as the default card.

Use the same actions as Step 4 above to rearrange, remove, or add a card.

5) Tap Back and then Done.

Now what?

Now that you’ve changed your payment information tied to your Apple ID, the new credit card you have just added will be charged any time you make a purchase from any of Apple’s online digital content stores.

So basically, your old credit card that you replaced won’t be charged anymore.

Conclusion

Changing your Apple ID payment information is a good idea if you ever sign up for a new credit card that you’d rather use instead, or if you recently had an account number change to protect yourself from fraud. Imbued with the information you learned in this tutorial, you should be able to make the change in as little as 5 minutes.
