Cracked Your iPhone? Call Dish for an In-Home Repair

You paid nearly a week's salary for that iPhone, so there's no way you're buying a new one just because the screen is shattered and the battery can't hold a charge. Enter Dish: The satellite TV provider has a new, nationwide fleet of professional technicians who make house calls.

With Dish's Smart Phone Repair program, a technician will arrive at your door to repair cracked screens and replace batteries on Apple's iPhone 5, 5c, 5s, 6, and 6 Plus. Dish will expand to additional devices and accessories "in the coming months."

"Fixing your phone shouldn't mean losing your phone for days on end," John Swieringa, executive vice president of operations, said in a statement. "So we come to you—whether you're at the office, the gym, or even the coffee shop."

Anyone in the 50 states—Dish subscriber or not—can make an appointment seven days a week; the company offers same-day and next-day availability, and guarantees all work with a 60-day warranty.

"Instead of paying $650 or more to replace a smartphone, our technicians step in to extend the life of the phone when a screen shatters or a battery loses its charge," Swieringa said.

Prices depend on the handset model and the required repairs: A battery replacement costs $74.99 across the board, while a new screen will run you $134.99 to $184.99. An overhaul of battery and screen comes to somewhere between $174.98 and $224.98. All costs include a $35 "Drive to Me Fee" that covers one or more devices during a visit.

Dish will also help businesses, making it easier for large-scale iPhone rehab of enterprise smartphones and employees' personal devices.

And perhaps you'll sign up for Dish while you're at it. As the company's repair site notes, "Not only can we repair phones but we can also setup your TV, install your surround sound system or set up a home Wi-Fi Network."

If you're fed up with your iDevice and are ready for an upgrade, Cupertino now accepts damaged goods as part of the Apple Store Reuse and Recycle trade-in program. In February, the tech titan started giving credit for iPhone 5s and iPhone 6/6 Plus units with damaged displays, cameras, and buttons—within reason.
