What decline? Apple watchers may be viewing 2016 as the year iPhone numbers finally fall off, but that doom narrative is contradicted by a new report suggesting that Apple has placed far higher than expected numbers for iPhone 7 production for this year.

According to a new report coming out of Taiwan, Apple has requested that its suppliers assemble between 72-78 million new iPhones by the time 2017 rolls around. This is significantly more than the 65 million handsets Wall Street had been predicting.

The report suggests that Foxconn will remain the key assembler for the iPhone 7, with support from Pegatron. As well as being assemblers for the next-gen iPhone, both companies will play a part in building the dual camera systems and “glass casing components” needed for the device.

Taken in conjunction with the recent report that the iPhone 7 may turn out to be a more significant upgrade than some are predicting, that’s certainly good news!
