Apple’s market share

According to IDC, Fitbit (FIT) is estimated to have shipped 4.8 million units, with a share of 24.5% in the wearables device market in 1Q16. China’s Xiaomi took second place this segment, with shipments of 3.7 million units in the same quarter. Apple came in third place for 1Q16, with shipments of 1.5 million units and a market share of 7.5%.

Samsung Electronics (SSNLF) and Garmin (GRMN) are other leading players in this segment, with shipments of 0.7 million units and 0.9 million units, respectively.

In the smartwatch segment, Apple (AAPL) leads the market with a share of 46% in 1Q16, followed by Samsung and Motorola at 20.9% and 10.9%, respectively. The other top players include Huawei and Garmin, with shares of 4.7% and 3%, respectively, in 1Q16.

Nokia reenters consumer electronics

Last month, Nokia (NOK) announced plans to acquire Europe’s (EFA) Withings, which has been leader and pioneer in the connected health revolution business segment since the company launched its first product in 2009.

In 2014, Nokia sold its Devices & Services unit to Microsoft (MSFT), which has announced its return to the consumer market with the acquisition. The deal was worth $195 million, or 170 million euros.
