Instagram’s iOS app now lets you save drafts of your half-finished photo edits

If you’re halfway through a masterpiece photo edit on Instagram and you get interrupted, you can now save your edits as a draft and complete them later. Instagram has been testing the feature for some time with a limited number of users, but has now rolled out the feature to everyone.

Instagram has posted instructions on its website.

Once you start creating a post, you can save it as a draft and share it later:

  1. Tap the camera icon at the bottom of the screen, then take or upload a photo or video
  2. Add effects, filters, a caption or your location
  3. Go back to the filtering and editing step, then tap the back arrow in the top left
  4. Select Save Draft at the bottom of the screen

Note: If you don’t edit the post, tag people or add a caption or location, you won’t be able to save the post as a draft.

To see posts you’ve saved as a draft, tap the camera icon and then tap Library. Posts will appear at the bottom of the screen below Drafts.

TechCrunch notes that Instagram was likely encouraged by enthusiastic responses from those selected to test the feature earlier this year.

Despite being a relatively minor addition, the Drafts option was met with joyous tweets by all those who happened across the feature earlier this summer – sentiments that likely led to the public launch. The feature isn’t just handy for those times you get too busy to post, but could also help those tasked with running a business or brand’s Instagram account prep their posts in advance of publishing.

If you’re not yet seeing the feature, it should roll out shortly. A previous update to the app brought pinch-to-zoom and better low-light performance for Stories.
