QuickBooks Online adds Apple Pay on the web support for paying invoices

Following the launch of Apple Pay on the web with macOS Sierra late last month, Intuit today added the feature to its popular QuickBooks Online service. That means that invoices sent using the software can now be paid using Apple Pay:

Now that Apple Pay is available on the web, QuickBooks customers using the Safari browser can view and pay invoices with a single touch. This unique benefit for small businesses on the QuickBooks platform can give small business owners a new, fast and protected option for improving their invoicing cash flow. QuickBooks Online is the# 1 global cloud accounting software with more than 1.5 million small business customers around the world.

Apple Pay on the web currently works on Macs via Safari and utilizes a user’s iPhone or Apple Watch to authenticate purchases via the Touch ID fingerprint sensor on those devices. Apple is notably expected to be including a Touch ID sensor in addition to a new OLED touch panel in the upcoming 2016 MacBook Pro refresh, which in theory would enable Apple Pay on the web support without the need for a connected iPhone or Apple Watch for authentication.

Intuit notes that the Apple Pay integration with QuickBooks Online can be enabled automatically for future invoices by users and that “Detailed transactions from Apple Pay will be automatically entered and categorized.” The company makes a version of QuickBooks Online specifically for Mac users.

We previously noted a few of the other sites that have started accepting Apple Pay on the web since its launch last month: Wayfair, WarbyParker.com, lululemon.com, staples.com, and of course, Apple.com, to name a few. Backend payment systems including Squarespace, Stripe, and Shopify have also announced support to enable retailers using those platforms to accept Apple Pay on the web.
