After unveiling a ceramic Apple Watch last month, Apple filed a patent application for using ceramic in iPhones. Could ceramic replace aluminum and be the material of future Apple gadgets?
According to Wired, there are many benefits to creating a ceramic iPhone. For starters it’s four times stronger than aluminum so it’d be harder to bend, dent, and scratch. Furthermore, zirconia, the type of ceramic that Apple used on the Watch, would make it easier to bring wireless charging to the iPhone, as well as remove the antenna lines.
So, if zirconia has all these perks, why haven’t we gotten a ceramic iPhone yet? In this week’s episode of The iPhone Show, Oscar breaks down all the pros and the cons of having ceramic Apple gadgets. Watch the video above to learn more about it.
Do you think Apple will find a way to use ceramic despite all its flaws? If so, do you think we’ll get it anytime soon? And finally, would you spend a premium to get an iPhone that looks like a set-piece from 2001: A Space Odyssey? Let us know in the comments.
