Apple Watch Victory Mentioned As Dedicated Watch Store Shuts Down

Apple has a launch event planned for later on this week, where it’s widely expected that a range of new MacBooks will be revealed by the Cupertino tech giant.

However, it might not just be new PCs on show at the 27th October event – reports are doing the rounds online of a possible new wearable… the Apple Watch Victory.

The name appeared on a number of Apple Stores across the globe, in the Apple Care section, alongside the regular Watch, the Edition and the Apple Watch Hermes. However, some digging from 9to5Mac has revealed that, in some countries, the wording is Apple Watch Nike+ instead of Apple Watch Victory. And it looks as if Apple is currently doing a clean-up operation on the others.

Think back to your Classics lessons back in school and you’ll remember that Nike was a goddess who personified victory. You can see what has happened here – someone has most likely just left the placeholders with the Victory name up.

The Apple Watch Nike+ was announced alongside the Apple Watch Series 2 last month. It is essentially a Series 2, with a special breathable sporty strap and dedicated Nike+ watch faces that aren’t available on other models. It is going to be available on 28 October and costs from $369.

Speaking of Apple Watch special editions and the original ‘Edition’, the gold-plated version that cost a whopping $15,000, looks like having its days numbered. When it went live back in early 2015, a number of dedicated boutiques popped up – including in London, Tokyo and Paris – to sell the top-end smartwatch.

However, reports now suggest that the Apple Watch boutique in Galeries Lafayette in Paris, is closing down in January due to dwindling sales figures and a “change in focus”.

When Apple announced its next-gen wearable, the highest priced version was a much more reasonable $1,299 (although you really should be questioning whether you should be spending anywhere near that amount for a device with a limited software and hardware lifespan).

Apple decided to ditch gold this time and wrap its most luxurious Watch in ceramic.
