Watch this hilarious ‘Apple engineer’ explain the MacBook Pro’s lack of ports

Apple Engineer Talks About New 2016 Macbook Pro
Apple’s decision to drop all but the USB-C ports on its latest MacBook Pro model annoyed many of the potential customers who’d been waiting an inordinate amount of time for the refreshed laptop to arrive.

So why did it do it? According to an “Apple engineer” in a new parody video (above), it’s so the tech giant could boost profits by forcing users to buy a bunch of dongles. Actually, some might agree with him.

Created in the same way as those amusingly subtitled Downfall videos, the engineer, who “worked in Apple’s laptop division,” explains to an interviewer that during the development of the latest MacBook Pro, Apple boss Tim Cook pressured them to create something more profitable than the iPhone.

At a meeting, one of the team members suggested they should “remove the ports and sell them as dongles.” Recounting the story, the engineer is unable to contain himself at the sheer absurdity of the idea – or possibly the pure brilliance of it.

Laughing uncontrollably, he especially enjoys the idea that everyone who buys Apple’s latest laptop will “have to carry around a bag full of dongles,” adding that Tim Cook is “crazy for dongles.”

There’s plenty more choice lines that’ll have you chuckling, so check it out if you need a laugh.

Responding to the outcry from disgruntled Apple fans looking to buy a new MacBook Pro, the Cupertino company on Friday slashed the prices of its range of USB-C dongles.

The company said it recognized that “many users, especially pros, rely on legacy connectors to get work done today and they face a transition. We want to help them move to the latest technology and peripherals, as well as accelerate the growth of this new ecosystem,”

The price cuts, which will save users between $10 and $20 a pop,  will run till the end of the year.

Why you should buy a MacBook Pro instead of a MacBook Air
The 14-inch MacBook Pro on a window sill.

There are plenty of reasons to buy a MacBook Air instead of a MacBook Pro. If you want a MacBook on a budget, you don't necessarily need the goodies that come with upgrading to the MacBook Pro.

That being said, I'm going to argue for spending a little more. In my experience, the MacBook Pro offers several distinct advantages that help justify a higher price, especially with the introduction of the more affordable MacBook Pro 14 with the base M3. If you can stretch your budget a bit, here's why I think you should buy a MacBook Pro instead of a MacBook Air.

Apple’s MacBook laptops come in a range of colors, and selecting which is right for you can be a tricky business. Sure, it’s perhaps not as important as deciding which chip to pick or how much memory you should buy, but it’s still a vital part of the equation. After all, you’re going to see that color every time you reach for your MacBook. You don’t want it to be something that fills you with regret.

But how should you pick a MacBook color? And what do the colors even look like in the first place? We’ve got the answers to those questions in this guide. We’d also advise you to go to an Apple Store to take a look at the MacBook colors in person, as some can be hard to appreciate just by browsing Apple’s website.

Why you should buy a MacBook Air instead of a MacBook Pro
The MacBook Air on a table in front of a window.

The MacBook Air has officially caught up. Now with the M3 on board, the MacBook Air has gained the benefits of the new chip, which was previously available just on the MacBook Pro and iMac.

Choosing between the M3 15-inch MacBook Air and the 14-inch MacBook Pro is tough, and requires an in-depth look at differences in ports, displays, speakers, and more. It's a legitimately hard decision to make.
