Microsoft Unleash Their Own Selfie App on Android

In the world of Android apps, there are of course a whole boatload of apps from Google themselves, as well as other big tech giants out there, but one name you might not associate with quality Android apps is Microsoft, which has been launching more and more of them over the past few years. It took Microsoft long enough to launch Microsoft Office on to Android properly, but since then the firm has been willing to experiment with new an interesting app designs for Android, ranging from Android Launchers, to a competitor for IFTTT. Now, however, they’re launching something a little more mundane into the Play Store, that doesn’t seem to be all that well received as of writing; the Microsoft Selfie app.

As you might expect, the Microsoft Selfie app is designed for those looking to take a photo and then make it a little better with some post-processing. As of writing, however, there doesn’t really appeal to be much in the way of added features that you’d find in another Selfie app out there. The main idea behind the Microsoft Selfie app is to use Microsoft’s own computer vision technology to take into account gender, skin color and age in order to put together an algorithm for the best adjustments to make your Selfie the best in can be. This, however, makes the app itself feel more like a tech demo than it does anything else, as the rest of the added filters and such are little more than added gimmicks if nothing else. They’re fairly basic and do little more than the built-in options on most phones do.

On top of that, the Microsoft Selfie app doesn’t actually feature its own camera, instead users are prompted to take a picture with the camera app on their phone and then edit it themselves, or choose something they’ve already taken. While this isn’t a deal break by any means, the whole app doesn’t quite feel like something you’d expect to see from Microsoft. Regardless, the app is free to download and those that want to take a look at the app can do so from the Play Store link down below.
